Rowan Kaufman
Retention Specialist - Business and Accounting; Culinary, Hospitality and Wine; Exploratory
My name is Rowan Kaufman (pronouns: they/them), and I serve as a Retention Specialist with the Seattle Promise Program at Seattle Central College. As a first-generation college student, I am deeply aware of the hurdles that can get in the way of student success, and I am passionate about supporting students in scaling those barriers to create the educational experience they want and need.
I work with Seattle Promise students to craft, build upon, and achieve educational goals. I aim to provide holistic support so students can thrive!
For example, I can help students:
- Build education plans, manage class schedules, and explore academic options
- Create the necessary environment for success on and off campus
- Prepare for long-term goals such as transfer planning and/or career counseling
- Identify funding options and complete scholarship applications
- Connect with resources across campus and in the wider community
- Navigate the college system
And more! I'm devoted to equitable educational accessibility.
Previously, I have worked with students as a teacher, a mentor, and most recently as an academic advisor for Running Start students at Highline College in Des Moines, WA.
I earned my own AA-DTA from Lower Columbia College, and then completed a bachelor's in English Literature and a post-baccalaureate degree in Education from Western Washington University. Outside of work, you can find me tutoring with Write Seattle, talking someone's ear off about a movie or TV show, and obsessing over my cat.
