360.01 Purpose

The Seattle Colleges recognizes the need to provide students with the opportunity for personal growth. Student programs enhance social, personal and academic growth through cultural, recreational, athletic, spiritual and leadership experiences. These programs also provide student support services and thus enable students to more fully realize the potential of their college experience.

360.05 Definition

Student Programs and Activities are those functions recognized by the student government organization; or recommended for funding by the services and activities fees committee or campus administration and formally authorized by the Board of Trustees.

360.10 Student Program Development

The student government and the professional staff responsible for student programs and activities will seek a broad selection of student programs open to all students, members of the college community and the community at large.

360.15 Operation of Student Programs

Student programs and activities shall operate under regulations and policies officially adopted by the Board of Trustees, the constitution of the recognized student government and campus regulations. Day-to-day operational responsibilities are delegated to the vice president/dean/director of student services and the college professional staff with direct responsibility for student activities and programs.

360.20 Program Ideas

Services and activities fee expenditures for programs shall result in the presentation of a balanced spectrum of ideas.

360.25 Student Organizations

The district procedures regarding student organizations are generally set forth in Title 132F of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC), chapter 132F-121, “Student Activities, Rights and Discipline”.

WAC 132F-121-030 covers when organizations may be established, requirements to access campus funds and/or facilities, advisors, financial accountability, and when a student organization’s recognition and funding may be withdrawn.

360.30 Athletics and Recreation

  • 360.30.1 The Seattle College District provides athletic, intramural and recreational programs that enhance individual student development, build a sense of identity with the college, strengthen the bond between the college and the community, foster cooperation and competition as important components of adult life, and promote wellness in a holistic manner.
  • 360.30.2 Intercollegiate Athletic Programs

    In the event that an intercollegiate athletic program exists, the campus administration shall adopt regulations or procedures to assure that the program affords opportunities for participation to as wide a segment of the campus population as possible and abides by the rules of the applicable governing athletic body.

360.34 Journalistic Freedom and Responsibility

The district procedures regarding student publications are generally set forth in Title 132F of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC), chapter 132F-121, “Student Activities, Rights and Discipline”.

WAC 132F-121-040 covers the board of publications, journalistic, editorial and advertising guidelines, freedom from censorship, and reasons for discipline or dismissal of student publication staff members.

360.45 Student Use of the District/College Name

The district procedures regarding student use of the district/college name are generally set forth in Title 132F of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC), chapter 132F-121, “Student Activities, Rights and Discipline”.

WAC 132F-121-050 covers the process for authorizing student use of the district/college name and conditions of use.
